Inefficient use of energy leads to higher costs, environmental damage and supply issues. Improving the efficiency with which energy is used to provide economic services meets the dual objectives of promoting sustainable development and of making the economy competitive.

A number of government agencies in India have recognized the importance of Energy Conservation and Efficiency improvements. This is reflected in a number of government publications, plans, policies and legislations as well as in the institutional set-ups. The extent of importance attached to Energy Conservation is reflected in promulgation of a separate Act – “Energy Conservation Act-2001”, which was specifically enacted to promote Energy Conservation.

The New & Renewable Energy Department has been promoting the Energy Efficiency and Conservation in Madhya Pradesh through Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd., a State Nodal Agency. Further details may be reached at
